These classes are ideal for women expecting their first baby and a good refresher for those women expecting their second or subsequent babies.
These women-only classes aim to increase your confidence in your body’s ability to give birth, as well as provide you with a chance to relax and take part in some gentle yogic-based exercises. The classes not only encourage you to find gentle ways of stretching and working with your body to help you cope with the increasing demands of pregnancy, but also help to prepare you physically for birth by practising positions for labour, learning breathing techniques, visualisations and relaxations. The classes are ideal for trying-out the different strategies you may need for birth, in a calm and supportive environment. Relaxation and breathing techniques are invaluable when feeding your baby or trying to calm and soothe if baby is unsettled.
As well as the physical aspects of the classes, there is time for an informal chat and discussion on a different topic each week (for example-the importance of the birth environment, water birth, induction, avoiding perineal damage, postnatal support etc).
For first time mothers there are practical tips, the opportunity to meet others and ask questions.
For those who are already mothers, the classes are a great opportunity to relax, connect to your new baby, and think about your wishes for this birth.
These classes should enable you to have an enjoyable and relaxing time whilst improving your physical and emotional well being, and increasing your chances of a positive birth experience (whatever that experience may be).
The exercises and postures are gentle and designed so that you can attend at any time from 14 weeks of pregnancy.
